Our First Glimpse of the Mountains
Beer at Helga's

Ending the night with a Champagne glass of gummy bears :)
Today was AMAZING!!!! We drove through boring Kansas for what seemed like forever! Nothing but wide open spaces as far as we could see... then it happened... we caught our first glimpse of the Rockies!!! They were stunning!!! With every mile they only got even more beautiful. We've never seen anything like it. We decided to stay the night at Buckley AFB outside of Denver at the Rocky Mountain Lodge. It was nice and new but we didn't have a mountain view outside of our room like we were hoping :( The base was set up VERY well. The BX, the Class 6 store, and the Commissary are all in one building that is set up like a mall instead of all being in different buildings.
The sun was so bright an beautiful setting behind the mountains. It was absolutely stunning!!! Just amazing!
We left the base for dinner and found a German Restaurant called "Helga's". The beer was great, the mushrooms and spaetzel were amazing, the potato pancakes were great, the schnitzel was good... but the schnitzel I make is better. They had a countdown to Oktoberfest!!! I'm going to need one of those in my life. After dinner we were too stuffed to do much else so we went back to the room and had a little wine, and a champagne glass of gummy bears for desert. We went to bed eager for the next day to explore Denver!!!
